A week later and I still can't get over this bad beat....
Last Sunday, my friends and I had a little poker tournament at my house consisting of Phi, Gren, Markus, My cousin Hendrix, Liza and I. So anyways this "bad beat" I can't get over happens to be 100-200 blinds mark. I was 2nd in chips with about 8000. The hands were dealt and literally I'm smelling something wrong with this hand. I tell my friend Markus, that someone has a huge hand coming up and it's not me. Then I look at my hole cards.......POCKET Queens I have. Sure they look pretty but I wasn't sure still about this hand. So many times people had this hand on TV and they run into an even bigger hand. It felt like this was going to happen to me. I'm in the small blind and now Gren has raised all-in with about 1600 in chips. Now with Phi and Markus folding I could possibly make this head's up if I can get my cousin Hendrix (to the left of me) out of this pot. Taking a sec whether to take a safe look at the flop or to go all-in. From here on out it was LOGIC taking over and started to ignore my feel that I should fold this hand or at least just call the all-in bet from Gren. NO! I don't.....I reraise ALL-IN with 8000+ in chips. Hendrix taking a moment himself whether to call me or not and fold. I DIDN'T WANT A CALL from him. There were so many hands in his position to still beat mine. (AA, KK, AK, A or K high.) He called and it was KQ diamond suited. FUCK! I was thinking, sure I'm the favourite going in but he has killed one of my outs if he catches a K.
Flop comes out K 6 A.
Turn is 6.
River is K.
Hendrix won the huge side pot, eliminating me in the process. Gren surprised showed K6 os which made him Kings full of 6s.
So anyway I FELT that this hand was gonna break me more than make me. But the LOGIC took over and of course I was the favourite pre-flop. I know I played my best but I'm just frustrated that my first instinct was right all along and I completely ignored it. I was a FEEL player in the beginning. Ever hear the saying, "Sometimes it's better not knowing than knowing." Well in this case it feels true. If I learned anything it's I need to play with FEEL over logic, instead of LOGIC over feel. Congrats to my cousin Hendrix and Phi for splitting the first place pot.
LOL it's an omen I think. Pocket Queens aka "The ladies" aren't with me and not showing me love. But how can any player fold Pocket Queens knowing you have the best hand pre-flop? The scary thing is I called it before I looked at my hand that someone was gonna have a HUGE hand. The Queens were a curse in a blessed disguise. LOL.
